Historical Information

Officially hoisted 24 October 1964. The shape of the eagle was modified in 1996. The eagle in flight symbolizes freedom in Zambia and the ability to rise above the country's problems. The red represents the struggle for independence, the black the people of Zambia, the orange its mineral wealth and the green its natural resources.
