Historical Information

Officially introduced 12 October 1954. The adoption of the blue was influenced by the blue field of the United Nations flag. The five points of the star represent the five countries in which the Somalis live: Somali (Italian colony),British Somali, Ethiopia,Kenya and Djibouti.
