Historical Information
Adopted 6 April 1862. As an emblem of sovereignty, San Marino adopted in 1797 a white and blue national cockade. The colours were taken from the coat of arms, which displays three white towers on a blue field. The towers represent three castles build on three summits of Mount Titano: Guaita, Cesta and Montale. The white stands for peace, exemplified by the white clouds and the snow; the blue is a symbol of liberty and the sky over San Marino.
