Historical Information

Adopted in 1975. The larger star stands for Niue, the smaller ones symbolize links with New Zealand. The Union flag recalls the protectorate Great Britain established in 1899 following a request made by the kings and chiefs of Niue. The golden yellow symbolizes 'the bright sunshine of Niue and the warm feelings of the Niuean people toward New Zealand an her people'.
