Historical Information

 Officially hoisted 25 September 1992. The ring of stars symbolizes the unity of all parts of the country. The ten stars represent the ten main islands of the archipelago: Sao Tiago, Santo Antao, Sao Vincente, Sao Nicolau, Sal, Boa Vista, Fogo, Maio, Brava and Santa Luzia. The colours symbolize the sky and the sea (blue), peace (white) and the efforts of the people (red).
