Historical Information

Adopted 26 November 1861. The colours symbolize sovereignty and justice (yellow); nobility, loyalty and vigilance (blue); and valour, honour, generosity and victory achieved at the cost of bloodshed (red). According to another interpretation, the colours stand for universal liberty (yellow), the equality of all races and social classes before God and the law (blue), and fraternity (red).
